I love this scene so much

I will honestly never stop loving this scene.

Ruffnut went to Hiccup for help to learn how to fly with ‘her’ own wings. She knew she could count on him for help, knew he would gladly help her become a Wingmaiden for Wingnut’s sake.

Hiccup had no qualms about helping out a friend. Even if this was cheating in his eyes, he’d rather see her accomplish her goal of becoming a Wingmaiden and taking the Leap of Faith in a way she was most comfortable with, which was with him at her side, giving her a crash course in flying (Probably much like he had given them all a crash coursing in dragon bonding back in Httyd, prior to chasing after the expedition heading for the Nest.) and with Toothless behind them.

Ruffnut is clearly nervous, maybe even terrified, at jumping from such a height, but she wants to do right by Wingnut and trusts Hiccup enough to take his hand and follow his lead as he jumps off Toothless.

I like that this is a Ruffnut and Hiccup scene. Not Hiccup and Astrid, not Hiccup and Fishlegs, not even Hiccup and Snotlout, but Hiccup and Ruffnut. We have had plenty of scenes in which the twins work on Hiccup’s nerves, but this is an actual moment between Hiccup and one of the twins. And a beautiful one at that.

I don’t ship Ruffcup romantically, but I do like the implications here that these two are close to eachother. As all the Riders should be after living a year together, fighting by eachothers side, and protecting one another.

I have no idea when the birthday of the Thorston twins is, but I do get this ‘big brother guiding younger sister’ type of vibe from this scene and those are the kinds of relationships that I honestly love the most. Especially when they aren’t siblings by blood, but siblings by heart.

There is such trust between these two, such a sense of love and companionship. I love Race to the Edge season 6 for bringing us this particular scene.

Also, gotta love Ruffnut in the ninth screencap. Whilst Hiccup is making a dramatic reveal of his Dragonfly 2 complete with the subs “[dramatic music]”, Ruff is just casually looking at Wingnut and probably reminding herself of just why she’s taking this Leap of Faith.
